These 3 steps are indispensable in your skincare routine

A beautiful skin is not solely determined by DNA. Our daily habits play the most significant role in what we see in the mirror. But what is truly the best skincare routine? We have outlined the most important steps for you.

The perfect skin begins with the following 3 steps:

1. Cleansing
2. Toning
3. Moisturizing

Cleansing the skin is the first step towards beautiful skin. Throughout the day, our skin undergoes a lot—accumulating oil, dirt, and dead skin cells. If not cleaned, the skin may appear dull and uneven.

How do you find the right cleanser?

An overly aggressive cleanser can disrupt your skin barrier, causing moisture loss and dryness. Unfortunately, this happens with many available cleansers, and mild cleansers are often hard to come by. The right cleanser cleans your skin gently without stripping away the essential oils.

For oily or acne-prone skin:

For a skin that tends to be oily or is prone to acne, a lightly foaming cleanser is a good option. The foaming liquid cleanses your skin thoroughly, removes most types of makeup, and leaves your skin soft.

For very dry and eczema-prone skin:

Cleansing balms, cold creams, and no-rinse cleansing creams are good choices if you prefer rich, hydrating cleansers that nourish your skin. It’s best to remove these cleansers gently with a soft damp washcloth to avoid damaging your skin.

For sensitive skin:

If you have sensitive skin, consider cream and lotion cleansers. These cleansers have a silky texture and remove most types of makeup. You might need a separate makeup remover for waterproof products.

Cleansers for every skin type:

If you’re not entirely sure about your category, you can opt for a cleanser suitable for all skin types. An oil-based cleanser is a good choice in this case. Oils not only hydrate but also act as a kind of “solvent,” absorbing oily ingredients in makeup and sebum on the skin, effectively removing makeup and excess sebum.

Toning

Now that we’ve determined which cleanser suits your skin, we can move on to the second step in the routine: using a toner. A toner is like a liquid primer that prepares your skin for the rest of the skincare routine. The skin barrier is strengthened, and antioxidants help maintain a healthy moisture balance.

Moisturizing

The main function of a moisturizer is to hydrate the skin. When your skin is well-hydrated, it is better protected against external factors like air pollution. The more moisture your skin retains, the better the skin barrier functions. A moisturizer is, therefore, an essential step in your skincare routine for everyone, including those with oily skin. Oily skin is the result of a fatty skin type combined with a dehydrated skin condition.

So, moisturize!
